Mounting chinese brush paintings with wallpaper glue / Pohjustetaan kiinalaisia sivellinmaalauksia tapettiliisterillä

Pohjustin tapettiliisterillä tekemiäni kiinalaisia tussimaalauksia, joista vanhimmat vuodelta 2014. Lisäksi maalasin yhden uuden (jota en vielä pohjustanut). Mukavan rentoa puuhaa. Ja lopputulos on puoliksi sattumaa, ainakin minulla toistaiseksi. Ei voi korjailla ja väri leviää ihan mielensä mukaan, ja viivakin voi mennä siveltimellä vähän sinne päin Toisaalta ideana (ainakin minun käymälläni kurssilla) on nimenomaan tehdä siveltimellä muotoja eikä niinkään tehdä eurooppalaisittain äärivivat ja sitten värittää alueet. Kiinalaiset sivellimaalaukset jotenkin kiehtovat minua; sulavat viivat ja kaunis pelkistetty muoto, oleellisin, paljon tyhjää tilaa ympärillä

I Mounted with wallpaper glue some chinese brush paintings, the oldest of which from 2014. Today I also painted one more, not yet mounted. Nice, relaxing for a change. The end result is 50 % unpredictable, to me at least. Corretions not possible, the paint goes where it wants and the line goes somewhere near the goal, but not exactly. The point is (according to a course I've participated) different from conventional watercolor painting. It is to create forms with the brush, not as usually, draw first and put the color then. Chinese brush paintings somehow fascinate me; effortless  lines with only the essential drawn, beautifully,  with a lot of free space around.

 I printed a vivid colored giclée print, size ca A3, on semigloss paper. The image is a digital collage of 4 paintings: some gouache, aquarelle, color pencil. My paintings, naturally. That,s something that fascinates me because you can end up to someting fascinating. Though it takes some time if you have to cut pictures digitally out of the background, precisely, like here the bear, princess and bird. Well, the bear is not so precisely cut, because bears are furry.

Printtasin värikkään n. A3 kokoisen pigmenttimustevedoksen puolikiiltävälle paperille. Kuva on 4 maalauksen digitaalinen kollaasi: guassia, akvarellia, värikynää. Omia maalauksiani, luonnollisesti. Varsin kiehtovaa, koska lopputulokset voivat olla jännittäviä. Tosin kuvien ns syvääminen eli irrottaminen taustastaan vie kyllä oman aikansa ja on tarkkuutta vaativaa - jos sen haluaa tehdä tarkasti. Nallea ei itse asiassa ole kyllä syvätty kovin tarkasti, karvainen kun on.

Printataan isoja pigmenttimustevedoksia / Printing large giclée prints

 I've recently started to print larger giclée prints. For me that means size A3 prints. They are the largest (or A3+) that I can print with my printer. If I want to make an even larger print, I have to make it like a poster, to divide it in parts. I will try it too, later. Why not, if even many old gorgeous japanese wood prints are made that way?

Printing the first print of my drawing or painting usually takes quite much time. At first I have to make a good scanning, then adjust the picture on the screen, then adjust the printer settings so that the test print looks  like the original. Very often there are unexpected problems with the printer and resolving them takes time. Printing is not at all so easy as you would think! Usually I don't make more than just one print a day  if we are talking about the first prints. Then I have to keep the settings and the test prints in safe for the following prints. If I print on a different paper, I might have to do some new test prints.

Olen viime aikoina alkanut printata isompia printtejä, käytännössä noin kokoa A3. Printterilläni saa maksimissaan A3+ kokoisia printtejä. Toki voin tehdä suurenpiakin julistetyyliin eli jakamalla kuvan osiin. Itse asiassa jokin aika sitten näyttelyssä, jossa oli upeita vanhoja japanilaisia puupiirroksia, oli useampi kuva koottu paloista.

Kun teen ensivedoksen jostain piirustuksestani tai maalauksestani, täytyy siihen varata aikaa.  Ensin täytyy tehdä hyvä skannaus, sitten säätää kuvaa näytöllä ja sen jälkeen säätää tulostusasetuksia kunnes testiprintti näyttää samalta kuin originaali.  Hyvin usein myös printterin kanssa ilmaantuu mitä kummallisimpia odottamattomia pulmia, joiden ratkomiseen menee aikaa.  Printtaus ei ole lainkaan niin yksinkertaista kuin ehkä voisi kuvitella! En yleensä tee samana päivänä kuin yhden ensivedoksen. Sitten minun on paras säilyttää visusti tallessa testiprintit ja sen asetukset tulevia printtejä varten. Mikäli käytän erilaista tulostuspaperia, tarvitsee todennäköisesti tehdä lisää testiprinttejä.

Digitally coloured pencil drawing / Digitaalisesti väritetty lyijykynäpiirros

I'm participating an illustration course, that will continue after some time. There I decided to colour one magazine illustration excercise - a scanned pencil drawing, digitally with "Fill".  It is better to use distinctive, black ink instead of pencil, but I  made the lines more visible digitally and then it was quite ok. The lines must be continuous, when you use fill.  I tried vectorizing (tracing), wasn't content, so I decided to color it in bitmap form. 

I would call that  an interesting kind of technique of visual artmaking! With a good software you have endlessly shades of color, that are already "mixed", ready for you to use. And you might find shades that you wouldn't otherwise come up with, by mixing the ordinary colors of your watercolor or other palette. And an it's easy to get an even color surface. I like it! The Theme of the illustration was "Dynamic Prices". I've used reduced palette, which is common in illustratons.

Olen osallistunut kuvituskurssille, joka jatkuu jonkun ajan päästä. Siellä päätin kokeilla yhden lehtikuvitus-harjoituksen, skannatun lyijykynäpiirroksen väritystä tietokoneella  ns "Fill"-tyylillä eli täyttämällä alueita värillä. Musta tussi selkeärajaisena sopii tähän paremmin, mutta vahvistin lyijykynäpiirroksen ääriviivoja digitaalisesti ja näin siitä tuli kelvollisempi. Viivojen täytyy olla umpinaiset, jotta fillin käyttö onnistuu. Kokeilin vektoroida kuvan, mutten ollut tyytyväinen ja väritin bitmap- eli pikselikuvan. 

Hyvin mielenkiintoista! Hyvissä ohjelmissa on loputtomasta sävyjä "sekoitettuna", valmiina käyttöön. Saattaa löytyä jänniä sävyjä, joita et muuten keksisi käyttää sekoittamalla oman vesiväri- tai muun palettisi värejä. Ja pinnasta saa täysin tasaisen. Sopii minulle! Kuvituksen teemana olivat "Dynaamiset hinnat". Käytin rajallista palettia, mikä on tavallista kuvituksissa.

Hiking with the cats aquarelle drawings / Retkillä kissojen kanssa, akvarellipiirroksia

Hello! Nice to see that there have been visitors! Thanks! Hugs! Some hope and motivation to post after being quite frustrated because according to Google Analytics my sites don't show very well in Google Searches, especially now when I have no interest or time to be hanging around in the social media.So I've almost quitted from here and my Weebly-homesite. Instead I've been making my portfolio /coffee table book, luxury of course😉. I have also made a series of "power card" drawings and recently  started to make a  series of cats, to begin with outdoor cats. Medium: pencil drawing+watercolor, stylized. I make hiking trips to interesting places with my cats at  my cottage, up to a hill/mountain or down to the river, not so very far but to regions they don't otherwise go, only with me. They follow me very well and enjoy very much the trips. At the time I have 5 cats. 

Hei! Kiva nähdä, että sivuillani on ollut kävijöitä! Kiitos! Halauksia! Tulee vähän uskoa tähänkin, kun olen ollut todella turhautunut siihen, että sivuja on tosi vaikea saada näkymään Google hauissa, varsinkaan nyt kun en  jaksa enkä ehdi  pyöriä somessa. Niinpä olen lähes häipynyt täältä ja Weebly kotisivuiltani. Sen sijaan olen aloitellut portfoliota / kovakantista (ns coffee table book) kirjaa kuvistani, hienoa tietysti😉. Lisäksi olen saanut joku aika sitten valmiiksi ns voimakorttisarjan ja nyt aloitin sarjan kissoista, aloittaen ulkoilevista kissoista. Tekniikkana lyijykynäpiirros+akvarelli, tyylitelty. Teen omien kissojeni kanssa mökillä metsä- ja jokivarsilenkkejä jänniin paikkoihin, mihin ne eivät mene ilman minua, ylös vuorelle tai jokirantaan. Ei kovin kauas mökiltä mutta kuitenkin. Ne seuraavat hyvin minua ja nauttivat retkistä. Tällä hetkellä minulla on 5 kissaa.

 

Stylized miniature portraits are something I started to do some years ago and  it is something I like very much. It is natural for me. That means I use A4 or A3 paper and draw there the whole body and the face. I focus quite much also on the clothing so someone could call some of them fashion pictures. Sometimes I've used barbies or other dolls with movable limbs as a model or sometimes so called wooden art mannequins, or just a picture. Sometimes I draw without a modell if the drawing will be very much stylized. However all kinds of fashion catalogues are fine to check the postures. In fact the postures there resemble the roman sculptures, to say a little exaggerated but beautiful positions. I would however say that in the social media the postures nowadays are very often way too much exaggerated and provocative to be beautiful. 

These two I've made almost ready already years ago, just finished them recently. I've got quite many "almost ready" artworks that I have started long ago. I've now determinately statrted to finish them one by one, and I've already made a lot of progress.

I've made for example a series of the70s. Of course, familiar to me! Saturday night fever rules!. I've also made some folkloric paintings. Also one of my favourite areas. I hope I wont insult with them anybody because of so called cultural discrimination, that I find a bit confusing sometimes. I hope it doesn't have any impacts on artistic freedom if the intentions are purely positive and respecting for the other culture.  In the artwork that I call miniature portraits I've used pencil, color pencil and watercolor or gouache. Perhaps I publish them some day or put them at least in my upcoming portfolio.

Tyylitellyt pienoismuotokuvat ovat ominta lajiani. Teen niitä erityisen mielelläni. Käytän niissä A3 tai A4 paperia ja mahdutan iihni vartalon ja pään. Vaatteiden osuus on myös tärkeä ja joku voisi pitää osaa niistä muotikuvina. Olen joskus kokeilut käyttää malleina barbieita tai muita vastaavia nukkeja, joilla on liikuteltavat raajat. Eriliaset muotikuvastot ovat myös hyödyllisiä, koska niistä saa malleja erilaisiin kuvauksellisiin asentoihin. Samantapaisiin kuin antiikin veistoksissa. Hieman liioiteltuihin, mutta kauniisiin. Sen sijaan en pidä monistakaan nyky-somen luonnottoman liioitelluista ja provokatiivisista asennoista. Ne eivät ole kauniita.

Nämä kaksi kuvaa aloitni ja tein lähes valmiiksi jo vuosia sitten, mutta vasta nyt viimeistelin. Minulla on aika monta tällaista ihan loppuun asti viimeistelemätöntä työtä, mutta teen niitä nyt määrätietoisesti valmiiksi yksi kerrallaan. Olen jo aika pitkällä!

Olen tehnyt esimerkiksi 70-luku sarjan. Tietysti! Tuttua minulle. Saturday night fever eli lauantai illan hurmaa ! Olen myös tehnyt joitain folklore-tyylin maalauksia. Erittäin mieluinen teema minulla. Toivottavasti en joku päivä jollain maalauksellani loukkaa jotakuta perustuen ns kulttuuriseen omimiseen, minkä joskus koen hämmentävänä. Toivottavasti sillä ei tule olemaan vaikutusta taiteilijan vapauteen ainakaan jos taiteilijan tarkoitusperät ovat puhtaan positiiviset ja toista kulttuuria arvostavat. Noissa töissä mitä nyt aloinkutsua miniatyyri-muotokuviksi olen käyttänyt lyijukynää, värikyniä sekä vesiväriä tai guassia. Ehkäpä julkaisen iitä joku päivä tai laitan vähintäänkin tulevaan portfoliooni.

Artist testing the waterproofness of dye-based ink prints / Taiteilija testaa värimuste-printtien (dye-muste) vedenkestoa

I'm testing the waterproofness of my upcoming prints. I have both a pigment ink printer and a dye-based ink printer with pigment black. 

After my experiences before and today I can say that the prints made with pigment ink printer are great (if you've done everything in adjusting color correct!) and waterproof, but you can sometimes get more vibrant colours on glossy paper with dye inks. Dye inks are waterproof printed on glossy paper but not on aquarelle paper, even though you might get marvellous colours also on them. Spraying fixative helps just a little, but not at all enough.

In conclusion: print with dye inks on suitable coated inkjet ink paper, e.g. glossy paper, if you want the print to be waterproof.  But on the other hand original gouache paintings and many watercolor paintings are not water resistant either. So it depends on how you use the prints whether they need to be waterproof.

Testailen myyntiin tulevien printtien vedenkestoa. Käytössäni on sekä pigmenttimuste-printteri sekä printteri, jossa on pigmenttimusta ja muut värit ns dye-värejä. 

Aiemman ja tämän päivän testailun kautta todettua: Pigmenttimuste-printterillä tehdyt printit ovat hienoja (jos olet tehnyt kaikki asiat värinsäädössä oikein!) ja vedenkestäviä, mutta dye-väreillä saattaa joskus syntyä heleämpiä värejä varsinkin kiiltävälle paperille. Dye-värit ovat vedenkestäviä printattuna kiiltäville (glossy) papereille, mutta eivät akvarellipaperilla, vaikka niillä saa kyllä kauniita kuvia akvarellipaperillekin. Fiksatiivin spreijjaaminen lisää aavistuksen vedenkestoa, mutta ei läheskään tarpeeksi.

Johtopäätökset: Printtaa dye-musteilla mieluiten tarkoitukseen sopivalle, sopivasti päällystetylle paperille, esim juuri kiiltavapintaiselle, jos haluat, että printti on vedenkestävä. Toisaalta alkuperäiset guassimaalaukset ja  monet vesivärimaalaukset eivät myöskään ole vedenkestäviä, joten riippuu käyttötarkoituksesta, tarvitseeko printin olla vedenkestävä.

Vasen kuva ylhäällä on printattu dye-mustein paksuhkolle akvarellipaperille. Liian tumma kuva. Väri leviää vielä senkin jälkeen kun fiksatiivia ruiskutettu kerran ohuelti, mutta vähemmän. Vasen kortti alhaalla printattu dye-mustein glossy-paperille. Hyvin onnistuneet värit, mutta vasemmassa alanurkassa hankaumaa ja niinpä sillä kohtaa paperin kastuessa väri leviää, muttei muissa kohdissa. Oikeanpuoleinen printti printattu dye mustein ohuemmalle akvarellipaperille.  Värit totaalisesti erilaiset kuin mitä näytöllä näkyi. Senpä vuoksi kannattaakin aina tehdä pieni testiprintti ennen varsinaista printtausta.

The print top left is printed with dye inks on aquarelle paper. Too dark picture. The color is spreading even after one thin layer of fixative spray. The greeting card bottom left is printed with dye inks on glossy paper. Bright beautiful colours, but abrasion bottom right and in that place water rinses the colours, but not in other places. The print on the right is printed on thinner aquarelle paper with dye inks. Totally differents colors than were on the screen. It happens sometimes, so making a small test print is important.

Greeting card design and opinions about gouaches / korttisuunnittelua ja mielipiteitä guassiväreistä

 

I'm now designing greeting cards of my artwork, starting with birds: candy colored flamingos and stylized mysterious peacock. The cards will be without ugly barcodes. I wonder when someone will invent beautiful barcodes?

The originals are gouache paintings. I recommend to you gouache painting if you like to paint with thick colors full of saturation, the same way you would paint furniture. Just use a lot of paint and to add opacity mix with white paint. You can also paint with the gouaches the same way as water colors, ethereally. However you cannot paint with the watercolors like gouaches except  that you mix them with white colour. They are not water resistant. You can try to ad water resistance by spraying fixative, but in that case be careful. I think they are however more resistant that pastel paintings that can almost fade away if handled carelessly, because they don't contain medium or "glue".

I will open my online artshop soon -like I've planned a hundred times before - if nothing comes in between style you cat or loved one dies, corona with sudden loss of income, Ukranian war with continuous need to follow up, your car or roof of your kitchen cracks with huge reparation costs. Or trouble and worries with you time consuming day work of other branche. Not any more, correct time to leave them.

Suunnittelen nyt omista maalauksistani tehtyjä kortteja taidekauppaani, aloittaen lintukorteista: karkinvärisistä flamingoista ja tyylitellystä salaperäisestä riikinkukosta. Niihin ei tule rumia viivakoodeja. Milloinhan joku keksii kauniita viivakoodeja?

Originaalit ovat guassimaalauksia. Suosittelen sinulle guassimaalausta, jos haluat maalata paksuilla värikylläisillä väreillä kuin maalaisit vaikka huonekaluja. Ota vaan siveltimeen runsaasti väriä. Peittävyyttä ja pastellimaisuutta voit lisätä sekoittamalla siihen valkoista väriä. Guasseilla voi halutessaan maalata myös samalla tavoin kuin vesiväreillä, eteerisesti, mutta vesiväreillä ei voi maalata kuten guasseilla, ainakaan lisäämättä valkoista. Peitevärit joita ainakin minun kouluaikoinani käytettiin myös kouluissa, ovat myös guassivärejä. Guassimaalaukset eivät ole vedenkestäviä, mutta vedenkestävyyttä voi yrittää  lisätä spreiaamalla fiksatiivia, mutta silloin täyty olla varovainen. Ja ovat ne mielestäni kestävempiä kuin pastellimaalaukset, jotka voivat huolimattomasti käsiteltyinä haihtua pölynä ilmaan, koska pastelliväreissä ei ole sideainetta.

Avaan pian nettikauppani - kuten olen suunnitellut jo sata kertaa aiemminkin - jollei mitään sitten jälleen kerran tule väliin kuten kissasi tai läheisesi kuolema, korona ja äkillinen tulotason lasku, Ukrainan sota ja pakottava tarve seurata missä mennään, äkillinen kallis korjaus autoon tai keittiösi kattoon. Tai aikaavievään päivätyöhön - joka ei liity taiteeseen - liittyvät ongelmat ja huolet. No ne oli kyllä nyt jo pakko jättää.

Aion myös tehdä portfolion ja haluaisin tehdä virtuaalisen taidenäyttelyn. Yritän vain löytää aikaa kaikkeen. Olen myös tutustunut SEOn (search engine optimization,  hakukoneoptimointi) ihmeelliseen maailmaan ja tarkoituksella ollut julkaisematta somessa tai kertomatta tutuille niin että kaikki on vain SEO:n varassa. Kokeile itse! Huomaat olevasi vain yksi triljoonasta.

I have made some new artwork, acrylic paintings of my cats and of Christmas flowers. And related to those "Small faces" published in my recent post, I have finished 2 and almost a 3rd one. That means, they have got body and clothes. I love that kind of work!!

It has been also quieter than before. Life is unpredictable: My 16.5 years old cat Mindo, later his sister and agemate cat Matilda, at the age of almost 19 years, have passed away. My father, 88 years, has passed away. My Fili-cat got lost. All this between 2017-2020. Well now I have a female cat named Raita, age 2 years, and her 4 kittens, who are almost 1 years old already. 😻

Olen myös tehnyt uutta taidetta, mm suurempia akryylitauluja kissoistani ja joulukukista...Olen myös viimeistellyt valmiiksi 2 noista jo pari vuotta sitten julkaistuista kasvokuvista jakolmas on viittä vaille valmis. Tarkoittaa siis, ett päät ovat saaneet kropan ja vaatteet. Hei, se on mun juttu!

Viime vuosina on ollut hiljaisempia kausia. Elämä on arvaamatonta: 16.5 v Mindo kissani ja lähempänä 19 vuotta ollut Mindon sisko ja ikätoveri Matilda kissani ovat kuolleet. Fili kissani on kateissa. 88 v isäni kuoli. Kaikki tämä välillä 2017-2020. No, nyt minulla on 2 v kissa ja sen lähes 1 v pennut. 😻

Hello everybody! Back to my homesite and blog. After a break,.

Just updated my homesite's text. Should still add and change there some pictures, re-open my artshop and more. Maybe I'll have time to load pictures to Instagram. Pity that there's not any more Google+, my favourite social media. I'll continue in Twitter, perhaps also in Instagram, Pinterest. We'll see. Depends on how much there's time.

During the break I've studied graphic design, publishing and printmaking and have now a degree. So I'm a professional. I've learned even better to use graphic design programs like Adobe Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop, though I nowadays prefer Corel Draw that was familiar to me even before. I can design different kinds of products like cards, posters, packages to mention some. I can make a flyer, calender, formally correct article, etc, even bind a book! Maybe I post some of them later here.

There has also been sorrow during my break. I lost my beloved cat Mindo at the age of 16+. I was very sad about half a year - only another person who has lost a pet, can understand it - until I in summer 2018 decided to have another cat, kitten Fili. Now I have Matilda almost 18 years and Fili little over 1 year.

I've also made new art. Now I'm finishing my 70s series. I will post about it later. And, yes, I'm making a font of my handwriting.

Hei kaikki! Täällä ollaan taas, kotisivuilla ja blogissa. Tauon jälkeen.

Sain juuri päivitettyä kotisivuni tekstin. Pitäisi vielä säätää kuvia, vaihtaa ja lisäillä, avata uudelleen taidekauppa ym ym. Ehkäpä minulla jossain vaiheessa on aikaa latailla kuvia myös Instagram:iin.
Harmi, että Google+ lakkautettiin. Pidin siitä yhteisöstä. Jatkan Twitterissä ja mahdollisesti myös Instagramissa, ehkä Pinterestissä. Katsotaan mihin aika riittää. Sitä on vain rajallisesti.

Tauon aikana olen opiskellut graafista alaa, painotuotannon perustutkinnon, minkä myötä olen nyt alan ammattilainen. Osaan suunnitella graafisilla ohjelmilla erilaisia tuotteita kuten kortteja, tarroja, julisteita, pakkauksia, kalentereita mitä nyt kaikkea voi keksiä, tehdä muodollisestikin oikeaoppisen julkaisun kuten vaikka lehtiartikkelin tai flyerin tai vaikka sitoa kirjan. Joitain asioita mainitakseni.

Tauon aikana jouluna 2017 tapahtui myös jotain todella ikävää. Mindo, toinen rakkaista kissoistani kuoli 16+ vuoden iässä. Kamala paikka, jonka voi ymmärtää vain toinen lemmikin menettänyt. Siinä surussa meni puoli vuotta, kunnes kesällä 2018 päätin hankkia toisen kissan, Fili-pennun. Nyt minulla on sitten Matilda kohta 18 v ja Fili reilut 1 v.




Olen myös tehnyt uutta taidetta. Viime aikoina olen viimeistellyt 70-luku sarjaani. Postaan siitä hieman myöhemmin enemmän. Niin, ja olen myös tekemässä käsialastani fonttia,

Started to do what is most natural - and easiest - to me: draw people., with water-colour pencils and a pencil.To begin with doll or barbie-like human figures, their faces.  The figures are on purpose a little unatural - and without other expressions than smile, faces symmetric and from front. They will be many many many more. As models anyone or nobody: friends, family-members, celebrities, maybe myself, but I don´t reveal who I have used and where. They don´t have to look like the models exactly - and they don´t.  By the way, no real human is perfectly symmetric. Some are imaginary and in some the model has simply been a barbie or the model has become out of my head. Lets see what becomes out of it.  Of course they will get clothes. They will maybe get expressions, different positions.....maybe a house or other things. The biggest difficulty is that they are relatively small and thats why the drawing line must be very very narrow and your sight good. Well here I get benefit from my asymmetric vision: my left eye sees well very near and the right one far - without eyeglasses.

Swans gouache painting / Joutsenet guassimaalaus

Yesterday I was visiting my childhood hometown Muhos. I walked along the River Oulu and saw there more swans than ever before. It looked like hundreds. Some were scereaming, some swimming, some flying. They seemed all to be in pairs.  I have put a photo of them in Twitter and google+. This gouache painting is made earlier this year. Just finished it lately. The background of the painting  is inspired by a place  near my cottage, in the Salmi outdoors area. I am going to make a giclée print of this soon and put it in my Siklee-shop, and also other prints.

Eilen olin vierailulla entisessa kotikunnassani Muhoksella, missä kävelin  kirkon vieressä virtaavan Oulujoen vartta ja ihastelin käsittämätöntä joutsenten määrää. Niitä tuntui olevan sadoittain Osa lensi, osa huuteli, osa uiskelnteli. Olivat pareittain, mitenkäs muuten? Olen laittanut niistä kuvan Twitteriin ja google+:aan. Tämä guassimaalaus on tehty jo aiemmin, mutta viimeistelin sen vastikään. Sen taustassa on ´vaikutteita mökkini lähellä sijaitsevalta Salmen ulkoilualueelta. Aion tehdä maalauksesta pikapuoliin taidevedoksen ja laittaa sen myös Siklee-kauppaani myyntiin, kuten muitakin taidevedoksia.

Making Fine Art Prints is Science. Test print is a must. / Taideprinttien teko on tiedettä. Tee ensin testiprintti

 

Make a painting, scan it or take a photo of it, print and sell.  That´s it. So simple. Or is it? Maybe something like that with my former simple inkjet printer. But not any more with the more complicated one, my pigment ink printer. I have been studying printing so much that I think could even give a lecture.  Pixels, dpi. Are they something to eat or what? Brightness? No, it doesn´t mean sunshine or happiness. Contrast? Saturation? Highlights? Gamma-value? CMYK? RGB? Does it mean something like ADHD? No?  Now I know it. And more.  Lately I have spent a lot of time trying to learn this kind of things, as a goal to make as good prints as possible.  And have made tens of test prints. It is a must. Before the final print it is obligatory if you want to get the best possible result. But the test print can be pretty and small. And you can use it later if it is good. Its the means to recall how managed to make that great print years ago. ICC profiles and especially customed ones help, but in my opinion it doesn't mean that you then necessarily make great prints without any effort. 

Above you can see some of my test prints of which many are very succesful. However none of the prints taken of the same picture is identical because the adjustement is different. I have also updated my site and Siklee shop and I begin to download Christmas prints there one by one.

Maalaa maalaus, skannaa se tai ota siitä kuva, printtaa ja myy. Siinä se. Yksinkertaista. Vai onko? Ehkäpä jotain sinnepäin vanhalla mustesuihkutulostimella, muttei enää uudella pigmenttimuste- tulostimella. Jos sillä haluaa saada kaikista kuvista laadukkaita on paras perehtyä tarkkaan pikseleiden, dpi ym maailmaan. Mikä ero noilla kahdella muuten on? Ja mitä väliä? No on todellakin väliä! Säädä sitten kontrasia, kirkkautta, saturaatiota, värejä, ääriviivoja, gammaa jne jne. Nykymaailma on täynnä kirjainyhdistelmiä ADHD, AIDS, DVD....Mitä sitten tarkoittaa CMYK tai RGB? No, nyt senkin nyt tiedän. Ja monta muuta asiaa. Niin hyvin, että voisin vaikka pitää luennon aiheesta. Ja testiprinttejä pitää tehdä. Ennen jokaista kuvaa. Mutta ne voivat hyvinkin olla pieniä ja sieviä ja niillekin varmasti löytyy käyttöä, jos ovat onnistuneita. Sitä paitsi ainakin parhaan lopputuloksen tuottanut kannattaa säilyttää vastaisen varalle, koska sen avulla voit palauttaa mieleen, miten teit sen tosi hyvän printin vuosia sitten. ICC profiileista eli tulostusprofiileista, varsinkin laitekohtaisista on hyötyä, mutta nekään eivät takaa sitä, ettetkö joutuisi myös tekemään lisäsäätöjä.

Yllä olevassa kuvassa on joukko testiprinttejä. Yksikään samasta kuvasta hieman eri säädöin otettu printti ei ole ihan samanlainen. Päivitin myös sivustoni ja Siklee kaupan ja alan ladata viime mainittuun yksi kerrallaan joulukuvia.

On time with my Musician Christmas Elves

Hello! Last year I started to paint my Musician Christmas Elves in November. This year I am on time, started  a couple weeks ago with these two more elves: flutist and accordionist. I  just should put colors on them. I have however - as usual - quite many oher unfinished paintings or drawings. Some flowers have been waiting since last summer ... I have even made a plan what I intend to do during this year. Doesn´t that sound ornanized for an bohemian artist! It is just easier - if you think and put it on the paper - to find out what is realistic.

At the Blueberry Time: About the background of the painting Art Nouveau Cat

It´s  the time of blueberries, so good to tell a little about the backgound of my picture "Art Nouveau Cat". I have already shared it in Google+ quite many times. The cat there is called Mathilda (sister of Mindo). It is quite a typical painting of mine at the time: I like for the first to combine realism - sometimes even photorealism - with fantasy and for the second make some objects with finel details and others approximate. In this painting the cat is painted in a very realistic way. In fact Mathilda looks quite exactly like that. The blueberries are simplified/stylished and make a good contrast with the yellowish background. The leaves of the lilies of the valley are quite redused, not much more than outlines  and two colors. It wasn´t my meaning to leave them so plain, but I think nothing more is needed in this painting. And the beautiful red - but poisoneus ! - berries have here an important  visual role. For the third: typical for me is that what the painting becomes in the end might often be quite much different from the one I sketched and planned. New ideas come when you paint. By the way often the best way to get ideas is to just start drawing something and the ideas just come;  rather than sit and try to seek the right mental creative artistic state of mind. For the fourth I have added here ornaments on the bottom. I like ornaments and decorations. I have left on purpose the lines not-straight. just because I have always preferred free línes. I never use ruler. But I admit that when I scetched the layout of the enlargement of my cottage for the architect, it looked better drawn with the help of the ruler...

But blueberries. They taste excellent as berries or in the form of blueberry-pie! And it is plenty of them arround my cottage. I should pick 1 litre per day. Already have 4 litres.
